Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna is an Indian drama film written, produced and directed by Karan Johar. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji and Kajol in lead roles.The movie deals with the issue of marital infidelity which is one of the biggest taboos in modern India. It was released on 18 August 2006. The film was screened at the "2006 Toronto International Film Festival" for which it received mixed reviews from critics but became a commercial success with over 10 million domestic net income (US$220 million). The film received Best Film and Best Director awards at the 2006 Filmfare Awards. This was also Karan Johar's first film as a director. The media dubbed this as "Karan's 1st hit" and "Karan Johar's first blockbuster". It is certified as 8x Platinum by Bollywood Heroes, which indicates an all-time theatrical gross of Rs 735 million to Rs 800 million (US$15–21 million) worldwide. The story begins with Abhimanyu Ghosh (Rohit Roy) and his wife Monisha Ghosh (Asha Negi). She is a hardworking medical student, while he works as a businessman in Mumbai. They love each other and share a mutual understanding that they will never be unfaithful to each other. During a trip to London with their family and friends, Abhi meets Karan Oberoi (Shah Rukh Khan), the son of an industrialist, and falls in love with him. When he returns home, Monisha notices his distracted behaviour and tells him that she knows his secret: he has fallen in love. He is confused about what to do as he is attracted to Karan but also loves Monisha. When Karan returns to India, Abhi's mind is already made up. At the airport, Karan proposes that they be together in London for six months and then return to India. Abhi initially thinks it is a mistake, but relents when Monisha suggests they postpone their trip (she has not yet completed her medical studies). The two leave for London in the middle of the night, following Karan's claim that he will marry Monisha if he can't come back in six months. Monisha does not like this arrangement but agrees because she has fallen in love with Abhi (and wants to be with him). Abhi, however, is irritated with her. When he returns home after six months, Monisha has gone to meet Karan on the pretext of buying some health books. Abhi is shocked to see her on Karan's arm and they argue. He tells her that Karan took advantage of him and she refuses to listen; she only accepts the fact that she's lost him. Monisha realises her mistake and begs for forgiveness from Abhi. Both Marans express their love for each other, but Abhi apologises for hurting her and assures Monisha that he will never divorce her legally because he loves both of them so much. Later, after a whirlwind romance with Kajol, they begin planning their wedding.
